I write true stories stitched together with sound — songs that saved me, haunted me and raised me. My memoir, Every Track is a Scar: A Mixtape Memoir of Goth, Grunge and Growing Up, maps a life through music, trauma, reinvention and joy.
Structured as a mixtape, the memoir uses QR codes to link each chapter to the song that shaped it, via official videos on YouTube — from Duran Duran and PJ Harvey to The Cure and The Killers. It’s a book about memory, identity and survival, designed to be read with headphones on. I’m a Gen X survivor with a dark sense of humour and a lifelong addiction to making sense out of madness. This memoir is for anyone who made mixtapes in the ‘80s, screamed along to grunge in the ‘90s and lived to tell their story, too.
